Speechless, perhaps..

I was on the bus last night after coming back from the park with my family. Since the bus was sardines packed, I gave up my seat to an old man and stood by the middle door. suddenly, I saw one African boy about 7 years old gave up his seat to sit at the other seat at the front, so hesitate not, I took his place instead. After 10 minutes or so he returned back and reclaimed his seat from me by saying that was his seat. His mum who sat next to my seat said nothing. She seemed pleased and agreed with him. I was like, 'err this is for real?'. Seriously, I was  'speechless'.

Since, there were too many people on the bus, I did not want to make scene and show my bad manners so , I just said this to him' your ticket has not got reservation seat number, once you left you must know that this is not yours any more'. After saying those words, I stood up and let him took the seat.

I did not know he understands or not but I think parents should teach the right manners. This is not Africa, even though you as a parent did not get a proper civic lesson in your back home, does not mean u should not teach your kid about civilization'. Sometimes, people from some countries do not know how to adapt with the local cultures. Such as the driving attitude, taking turn and etc. Please people, when you go to other's country do not expect to behave like when you were back home. It is not appropriate .

So, in a nutshell, 'When in Belgium do as the Belgian do'. take a good example, leave the bad one...

This is a picture of my son. The little girl who stood behind him was taught by his dad to take turn with Haris, see this is what we should do! nurturing our kids when they are still small.

White Christmast

This year Belgium is definitely having a white christmast. The snow has been falling from the sky since yesterday morning and until now, still has.

I think this christmast brings us and our wicked neighbour together. Both of us are offering truce. I have my good old neighbour back but my upper stairs neighbour is moving out at the end of this month. What a shame! He has been a very good neighbour for all these years. So far, we are the longest and oldest tenant in this block.

Anyway, I take this opportunity to wish merry christmast to all my christian friends and a very happy new year to all...

The heavy snow for year 2010

When I write this entry, the snow is still falling from the skies. The soft white flakes keep piling on the road, buiding ets and the white blanket is everywhere. The worst and earliest snow falls ever and the temperature is dropping to -7 degree celcius...welcome winter 2010.

Hoping to make a snowman in this coming weekend..InsyaAllah..

The leaves have fallen

Last week, my family and I went for a day trip to Ardennes. Ardenees is located in the province of Luxembourg. a small part of Belgium. Ardennes is popular for his countryside and ski. We went there on sunday morning. We departed at Liege Palais train station and got off at Marloia station. It took one hour plus journey by train. From that station we had to take a bus no.15 that headed to La roche. It took 35 minutes journey by bus. The verdict is, nice place to visit, though I still missing UK very much for its picturesque countryside...Anyway, the leaves have fallen since now is an autumn season in Europe, but we were lucky coz the weather was sunny and bright during the trip.

Let's the pictures do the story...

A day trip to Jehay Castle

Last saturday, we had a chance to visit Jehay castle as we planned a few weeks earlier. Actually, we went to visit it once but due to various wrong infos from internet, we ended up back home without having a chance to visit the castle.

Jehay castle is located in a small village called, Amay. The journey time takes an hour by bus from Liege city center. The entrance fee is Euro 5 per person. Trust me, the castle is wonderful, with a huge garden laying in front of the castle and it worth for every single penny that we paid. This castle is dating back 300 years old and they preserve most of the original stuffs like before. Just imagine, they still hanging an old curtain and the age of the curtain is 300 years old.

The huge garden just so lovely to view. We could not waste the beauty of the garden by not having a photoshoot! I just took loads of photos and I was impressed by how lovely the pics are with the garden's background.

How I wish I will have a house with a garden like this in the future..Well, stop dreaming, Nurul!

Why is breastfeeding is such a taboo?

We know breast milk is the best for our baby. But sometimes breastfeeding in public will make you feel disapprove. I do not talk about showing your breast like this while feeding..

What I meant is like this

Can you differentiate those two photos? Yes, the acceptable photo is totally cover your breast.

I am having the same difficulties as well especially when using a public transport. As I always mention, Haris hates bottle so much. It does not matter if I pumped my milk into the bottle or formula milk. He will rejects it without having a second thought. So, I have not got any choices. When he is crying out loud asking for milk, I need to feed him. Everytime we ride a train I will try to sit at a secluded seat so it much easier to feed him. But, can you imagine when all those seats are taken and to make it worst, I have to sit facing a stranger. I mean a man. What should I do?

So, I will leave the seat and tried to find a suitable place to breastfeed him. It's hard and I often find myself retreating to sit on a dirty floor nearby the train's staircase or the toilet. Huish..

I try to make the feeding time more friendly by wearing a nursing bra and top. I put a blanket on my shoulder to cover let say 'inappropriate range of vission'and I do use a poncho sometimes and it much easier. It acts like nursing cover.

Even though I take all the necessary action while feeding, the feeling of disapprove by public does exist and sometimes people make I feel uncomfortable doing so by staring at me, but I am determined to stick at it. As long as my breast is not popped out in public. As we all know breastfeeding need a strong determination and support from your loved one and it far from glamorous but I am proud of myself for giving my son the best start in his life.

I really hope one fine day, 'breastfeeding friendly' will happen in any places. But, until we have change in our culture ( I mean Belgian culture ), and breasfeeding is seen as normal and natural, I will keep feeding my baby even though toilet sit is the last resort as a suitable place.

Fitri Farewell Party

We had a blast and very tiring weekend yesterday. We were invited by Fitri, Abang Madzli and family for the 'kenduri doa selamat' in Antwerp. This 'kenduri' is purposely to celebrate Fitri for his achievement in finishing his Masters Study at University of Antwerp. He will fly back to Malaysia in this coming 18th June 2009 before persuing his PHD in one of the University in Liverpool for this September enrolment. Good Luck Fitri for your future undertakings.

As I always mention, Antwerp is located two hours by train from our place. We went off and tried to take a train at 10.15am. After waiting for 30 minutes, the train was arrived but 15 minutes late beyond the departure time. I did not suspect anything goes wrong at first and just assume everything is ok. Wait until the end of the story to know why the train was late. So, nevermind.

On board after one hour journey, I told Am I felt like fainting and light headed. Am asked me if I wanted to back to Liege and cancelled the plan to Antwerp. I said no because, this was the last time to meet Fitri before he flying back to Malaysia, plus he is quite closed to us. So Am said, ok.If I insisted so! Seriously, I was totally pale and straightaway he gave me his hot Nescafe to drink. After drinking, I could feel the blood rush into my head and my heart was pumping quickly to supply enough blood to all over my body. I guess, my blood glucose was too low after all.

In two hours time, we arrived in Antwerp. We took tram and step our foot at Abang Madzli's house around one a.m. After having the 'doa selamat' majlis, all the guests were served with a very good Malay meals and varieties of 'kuih muih' to be tasted off. I completely lost my mind after seeing the foods. I supposed to control my intake but I chose to ignore it. Who could say no to 'masak lemak nenas ikan sepat masin?', tiramisu, pudding, pineapple cake, 'kerabu perut', prawns, spicy fried chicken, chocolate cake ( special made by me..hheheh ), fruits etc. The menu(s) were so mouth watering. I tried all the foods but with a small portions like not I used to be. After two hours of eating, I needed to test my blood glucose level and voila, the result showed 164mg/dl. Hahahaha..I deserved the high glucose level after almost fainting on board before. Well, just kidding ok. I was totally scared after that because the reading should not be more than 120mg/dl. So, right on cue, I stopped all the meals intake and just had a plain water until this morning. Hmm..What a price to pay for having a baby for a gestational diabetic mum, like me!

After finishing chatting, laughing, eating and all -ing things, we decided to return to Liege by taking train at 7.43 pm from Antwerp central. So, En. Adnan (one of the Embassy staffs) offered himself to drive us to the Central station after seeing we carried a heavy stuff with us. A free petit washing machine that was given by Fitri. It not too heavy but quite heavy when you have to handle it for quite sometimes.

We arrived at the train station 30 minutes earlier but, unfortunately all the train to Liege was cancelled. The reason why? I did not know. I guess they have a few places of tracks maintainance all the way from Liege to Anterwp routes. That was why our train in the morning was 30 minutes late. It is bizzarre for Belgium train to arrive late unless something is wrong somewhere.

So we decided to change our route headed to Leuven and from Leuven took another train to Liege. So off we went. Again on board, the conductor said, we had to change at Aaschort and Hasslet if we wanted to go to Liege. Two times changed with the washing machine was a really bad idea. I asked the conductor why we could not change at Leuven instead? Because if we changed at Leuven we only changed once instead of twice. The conductor said something bla..bla..bla..I could not recall the infos. Bongok and moron as being me used to be. So we followed the conductor's instruction foolishly without following the right intuition decision making by our hearts. After having difficulties in changing train twice, there we were at the Hasselt train station, waiting to catch the next train to Liege.

Unfortunately, againnnnn the last train to Liege was one hour ago. In other words, we received the wrong infos from the conductor!

Sighhhhh! Seriously that stupid mistakes that should not be done by the conductor and us had been done. What a shame.

Again, we departed the same train and return to the same route as before to go to Leuven as our initial plan (before the conductor was messing our head with the two times changing train). We arrived at Leuven train station around 10.31pm. The next train to Liege was 11.26pm. So we waited for almost an hour with the pang of hungry feeling.

We arrived at Liege station at 12.15am in the night and again, there was no train to Liege Palais. So we took a cab that costed us Euro 15 to go back to our home. It was resulting us wasted three hours journey time, arriving home three hours late, spending time and energy changing the train four times instead of once, having mood swings between both of us after not having dinner. Nevertheless, after all the difficulties and challenging day, we arrived home sounds and safely with the washing machine. I think that was the unforgettable journey after all.

So you know, until now my husband is still sleeping soundly like a baby and I just woke up in the midday. I guess, we both lack of energy to be a morning person for today.

Anyway, to Abang Madzli and family thanks for having us. And, for Fitri, good luck for your future undertakings and thanks for everything. We will definitely going to visit you in Liverpool soon. Since we have some plan in our mind about going to the UK for our holiday break. To cover the part that we have never been to before when we were living there.

As usual the pics of me in week 34 of my pregnancy.

p/s .. Thanks to En Adnan n Nurul Huda for bring our baby stuff all the way from Malaysia to Belgium. Thankssss so much.

Farewell? Perhaps...

At the weekend we spent our days in Gent. The journey took 1 and half hours from our place. We off to Gent on saturday morning to sightseeing at the most attractive place in the Flanders area which is Brugge. Brugge is only one station after Gent SP and it took 30 minutes of the travel time by train. The peaceful surroundings really ease our mind. With the white swans in the lake. The crystal clear lake and canal water really worth to visit. Believe me, Brugge has its on charm and unique on its own way. We spent 4 hours to sightseeing in Brugge before off to Natrah's place and overnight there.

In the noon on sunday morning, Natrah and us off to Dr ashraf and Kak Na's house. This would be our last visit to their house since they will fly back to Malaysia on 3rd May. Fitri In Liege

Fitri is one of our friends in Belgium. He came over all along from Antwerp to spend his weekend with us. This was not his first visit though..We decided to bring him to Park de la boverie to enjoy the sunny weather and the beautiful surroundings. Indulging himself with a cone of ice cream..yummy! I took plenty of his pics for his own collection...

weekend activities

At the weekend, we had two families stayed overnight at ours, Dr. Ashraf & family together with Zaini & family. It was a last minute plan actually. Kak Na told us about the indoor theme park that they intended to visit on Sunday located in Hasselt. Only 50 minutes from our place. So they chose to arrive a day earlier and spent a night in Liege. I was cooking kerutuk daging, ayam masak merah and stir fry broccoli for them. The first attempted of my daging kerutuk turned out very well, or maybe good.hehhee..It looks like the wedding dishes in kelantan. But, what a shame when I have forgotten to serve the watermelon as my initial planned menu. The watermelon costed us Euro seven because we had mistakenly read the description of the fruits. Poor us.

So after dinner, we have been talking endlessly and had our second servings before going to bed at the midnight, for Sundays' morning activities.

Fried vermicelli and sardines sandwich were the foods that we brought for the theme park activities.

Pics above are courtsey from Kak Na's camera..

We rode a train at 10.15am from Liege Palais and arrived in Hasselts, 50 minutes later. Unfortunately, we had to wait for the free bus, H3 to the Plopsa Indoor theme park for 40 minutes. The bus was free. The journey took ten minutes to arrived at the park by bus. The entrance fee for the park is, Euro 16 per person for adult.

Enjoying ourselves to the fullest until the late evening before going back to our home..safe and sound.

p/s= gambar kali ni ada 10 kpg jer..bateries went dead and dim lights..so photos turned out blurr..without tripod.
